Instant Messenger Tradeoff

Posted on June 10th, 2007 in Uncategorized by jiayou

Oh, very nice to have lots of friends who keep in touch every day. Even better, if our friends live very long distance from us, we feel they are at beside us. I have friends and families who live far away Taiwan, but i can freely talk with them every time, everywhere, and sometimes, it’s like living in same place. How do we feel that? the answer is INSTANT messengers.

But, how do you think about the trade off between keeping in touch and productivity? sometimes, it’s terrible, but in another time is to be the best way to distract feeling lonely or i can help us to

Google Map-Awesome

Posted on June 10th, 2007 in Uncategorized by jiayou

Never die creativity on internet. how it comes? modern people can not live with one day off from internet. whatever you do on the web, there is some feeling to connect through virtual world. checking and sending email, reading news, finding some information can be done by click and click. no matter what kind of information you are looking for, it will come up on the screen just by clicking key word in search engine. on the web it offers huge data, information, image, multimedia, etc. one big problem which come up if we can not filter those awesome information and data is how to make priority and how to manipulate and use those. and the most people worry about the internet, it tends to make people reducing his time to socialize, coz they feel that he can get everything they want on the web.

Almost everyday the features are introduced  to  users.  when  i knew google map for  first time, there are some lacks of capability and features, like couldn’t find some places,  even public places in developed countries. But today, we can search lots of things and places in around the world. a couple days ago, i tried to find melbourne airport by putting it into map search. in few second, the result come up. at the same time, i wanted to know how to get monash university at clayton where i am going to go on 27 June from melbourne airport. when getting the result (melbourne airport), there is a tooltip which show up where melbourne airport locate. from the tooltip, there is a direction “from here” to “to here” link. then i clicked “from here” link to set the starting point and filled in the destination, monash university, into search map box, and finalized by clicking “go” bottom. in few seconds, the result came up, that is a direction from the melbourne airport to monash university. wow, it’s great, very powerful and useful. i can go anywhere without requiring first experience.

Besides what i found a couple days ago, today i find a features of google map which enable users to look at the street directly (seems live, but this feature can only be used in some places, especially in united state).

Dictionary Tooltip – very useful and efficient

Posted on April 28th, 2007 in Uncategorized by jiayou

Technology innovations make us easy to do everything, including in learning language. Especially for who like online reading, there is a dictionary tooltip which helps us if we face words that we dont know the meaning. Unfortunately, to use this software we must be online and using firefox web-browser. You can download this software from the web site and install it. And it’s very easy to use it, just double click a word that you want to look up, then the dictionary will come up on your screen. This dictionary also provides the sample how to pronounce the word which we are looking up, and sometimes also gives us the illustration picture.

Good luck and have a nice day….

My roomate, Geek Man

Posted on April 28th, 2007 in Uncategorized by jiayou

When i came for first time at NTU, i already knew i had right to get a room in dormitory. But i didn’t know that i had to live with a roommate. At that time, my roommate was a Taiwanese. I was very sock when dormitory manager introduced me to my roommate in the room. It was not because my roommate Taiwanese, but it was because the way he lived, so terrible. The room was very dirty and bad smell as well as his bathroom. after few weeks living with him, my tutor told me that he was actually not student, he was a worker. Gedubraaaaaaaaaaaaak, prang..prang…hadhes,,,,,hadhes.

Six months later, i moved to another room with different roommate. He is also Taiwanese, but the big difference is he is student, Computer Science Department. After a couple days, i knew him that he is really a hard worker. Almost every day he is in front of his laptop and surrounded by mountains of books. every day, i look him, cheg..cheg..cheg (typing sound) and sometimes he opens his books. He is a programmer. And what surprising me is he sleeps very less, may be, 4-5 hours per day. Even sometimes he doesn’t sleep for tree days and is still alive:-). WOOOOOW, REALLY GEEK MAN.images.jpg

English or Mandarin

Posted on January 4th, 2007 in Uncategorized by jiayou

Chinese, some cases, doesn’t become compulsory for international students who wanna study in some international programs which offered by Taiwanese Universities. Many Indonesians do not have active english ability (indonesian education system makes students to be pasive), then they are facing a problem; inside classes generally use english, bout outsite classes use mandarin, so which one should we give priority?

Mastering Mandarin, besides we truly prove that we study in Chinese environment, we also have competitive advantage and opportunity in future career. But, if we dont have time to learn chinese or we are facing tradeoff between mastering mandarin or perfecting our english, in my opinion, it should be better if we give english in first priority. First, in class and our research we use english at all and it’s also our future benefit, especially who want to continue their study, and then we have many choices about country destination, not merely in chinese countries.

Beasiswa Untuk Belajar di Taiwan

Posted on December 13th, 2006 in Uncategorized by jiayou

Taiwan.
